We could be just what this barony needs right now. By the time the new Baron and Baroness step up here, we will have played in Caer Mear and Atlantia for three years. We have seen what makes our new home distinct and special, and we have come to love this place. We want our home to be welcoming to all – established players, newcomers, and transplants from other branches both within our kingdom and far and wide. At the same time, we have been serious about the SCA since 2006, and having played in six kingdoms, we have a breadth of knowledge from seeing what other groups have tried; what has succeeded and what has gone by the wayside. We have seen firsthand how some concepts may translate; others only work because of the peculiarities and distinctness of a specific place and people. We aren’t afraid to try new things, to borrow from others, and to listen to opinions of something may or may not work. Malka has been a branch exchequer and a baronial seneschal in her time in the SCA. She has been an event steward. She has worked in many a kitchen, retinued for a decent number of baronesses and at least one queen. She has sat many hours at gate. Iacobo has been a branch or baronial herald in three kingdoms, currently serving in a role as both Caer Mear herald and a kingdom deputy here in Atlantia. He has run events, and been on staff for many others. As royal herald and retinue to Ragnarr and Mary Isabel, he has had to learn this kingdom quickly. We have a proven track record of service to the branches, baronies, and kingdoms we have played in. Caer Mear is a remarkable place, with strong traditions. Like every branch of the SCA, it faces challenges. These challenges are not insurmountable. How do you face these challenges, coming up with potential new solutions, while keeping the character and traditions of our home? We think the fondness we have developed for this place, when paired with a combined 40+ years of SCA experience and the breadth of knowledge gained from those six various kingdoms has prepared us to help our new home face the challenges ahead.
To the good populace of Caer Mear pray ye take heed and consider these words.
The Honorable Lady Astrid del Grenewode and her beloved Lady Osa the Archer, would present themselves to be considered for baronage.
Since reaching the fair lands of Atlantia from Drachenwald in the year of our society XLIV Astrid has provided service to the populace in several forms. She has served both as a Master Chiurgeon of Atlantia, even acting as one of the deputy war chiurgeons for Pennsic, and as is expected as one who tends to health she has provided service as a bearer of water.
Born into the society Lady Osa became active once more in AS XXXIX. She also has an impressive record of service to the populace. This includes running archery events as both MIC and secondary. She was web master for the college of Yarvid for several years and has acted as autocrat for several baronial and sub group events. Currently she has focused on the arts and is a prolific scribe, who served as Scrivner Royal for TRM Cuan and Signey. She has an obsession with making her own pigments, much to Astrids displeasure when she finds the piles of dirt.
In the past several years both have served as senior staff members of the Pennsic War in the department of event safety.
It is the fervent hope of these two ladies that they will be able to assist the barony in myriad ways. They would aim to encourage those who are already within the barony to continue to be active and seek new and returning members. To bring recognition to the good works of the populace at both baronial and kingdom level. They would desire to spread the skills of the barony far and wide and seek knowledge from others to enrich the lands of Caer Mear.
Yours in service.
THL Astrid del Grenewode, Lady Osa the Archer.
